‘Drive thru’ Brothel should be stopped immediately

Family First is calling on the Police, Manukau City Council and the Papatoetoe Community Board to take urgent action against a vacant house / property in Papatoetoe being used as a ‘drive thru brothel.’

Family First has been contacted by concerned residents in Kolmar Rd, Papatoetoe expressing their shock and concern at the activities happening at the property, situated right in the middle of a residential area.

The residents say that almost every night of the week between the hours of 8pm and 6am, up to 5 vehicles containing prostitutes and their ‘clients’ will park-up on the property ” says Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First. ”This is unacceptable, not only because of the strong community opposition to this type of activity, but because it is in a residential area and putting families and especially children at risk.

Parents do not want their children and families exposed to this type of activity.” says Bob McCoskrie. “We already have accounts of home-based brothels where men willing to pay for sex are knocking on nearby homes trying to find the brothel. As a man and as a father, I would not want my children answering that door!

We must not put our children and families at risk. The association of brothels and prostitutes with drugs, alcohol, and used condoms littering the area is totally inappropriate in a family and residential area.”

There is concern that teenage prostitutes could also be involved.

At a time when the Manukau City Council is trying to get a law through Parliament banning street prostitution, they (and the Police) should be dealing strongly with this type of anti-social behaviour in a residential area.

The decriminalization of prostitution has failed prostitutes by encouraging them to think that prostitution can be safe – which it can never be. But now the law is also failing our communities. We must change it before it is too late and our children become victims, similar to our teenagers.”
