McBLOG: A win for free speech (Finland)


Päivi Räsänen – a Member of the Finnish Parliament – was facing three criminal charges and faced up to two years of imprisonment. Her alleged crime? She publicly voiced her deeply held bible beliefs. During their closing arguments, the prosecution argued that the use of the word “sin” could be “harmful.” Last week, the Finnish court dismissed all charges, concluding that “it is not for the district court to interpret biblical concepts”. “The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.” – George Orwell.
