Kiwi’s trust in the media declines to a new low.

Kiwi’s trust in the media is at its lowest point in the last decade.

This data is from Statistics New Zealand’s 2023 General Social Survey. It shows that trust in the media in this country was rated the lowest, in a survey which also quizzed New Zealanders on how much they trust the police, the courts, the education system, the health system and even parliament.

The public were asked to rate their trust on a 0 to 10 scale (where 0 is no trust and 10 is complete trust). Trust in the media was only rated 4.3. Parliament was the next worst at 4.9. The other sectors all rated above 6.

Media Trust Decline Stats

In 2014 the same survey showed trust in the media was rated just below 5. In 2023 it sank to its lowest point (from the data made available by Stats NZ).

In the last decade, leftist liberal ideology has shone bright in the majority of mainstream media’s coverage of the news. Is it any surprise that the media’s trust levels are nose-diving? While conservative values and other similar opinions are blatantly ignored, trust is declining. The media seems to be allergic to producing balanced articles. This latest data should be another wake up call.

However, we shouldn’t hold our breathe…the media is clearly continuing, full-speed, to indoctrinate rather than inform.

This is also being mirrored in the halls of power, our parliament. Liberal hot topics like abortion, LGBTQI, transgender, surrogacy, euthanasia etc are the golden calves which cannot be disputed. On the other hand, simple conservative family values are deemed to be the ‘enemy of the state’.  While a significant portion of the New Zealand population continue to be ignored and in some instances targeted, our parliamentarians can also count on unacceptable trust levels into the future.

The survey also showed that Kiwi families are feeling less safe especially when waiting for public transport at night and walking alone in their neighbourhood after dark.

Statistics NZ also reported that the survey showed increased concerns about crime… leading to a greater effect on Kiwis quality of life.
