Roger Partridge from the think tank, the New Zealand Initiative, shares his latest research report – ‘Who Makes the Law? Reining in the Supreme Court’. Talking with Family First’s Simon O’Connor, he discusses how the courts are creatively interpreting Parliament’s laws, often taking large leaps to get to conclusions contrary to Parliament’s intents. The report also highlights how some judges are also deciding on what social values are, or should be, and interpreting the law on this basis. Family First has experienced this first hand, with the judge deciding that ‘family’ is no longer a charitable purpose. All of this makes the rule of law increasingly uncertain with consequences for us all. #familyfirst #NewZealand #Law #courts #democracy
