McBlog: BBC Busted For Blatant Bias

The once proud BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) is a sad corpse of its once grand self. As we often say, credibility is hard won – but it is so easily lost. And in our view, the BBC is now beyond redemption. They’ve been called out by other media for blatant bias of not only their coverage of President Trump but also their Gaza coverage. But the NZ media would probably get the same ‘bust’.

BBC Gets Busted For Blatant Bias

But the NZ media would probably get the same report

The once proud BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) which is similar to Radio NZ and TVNZ here in NZ is a sad corpse of its once grand self.

As I often say, credibility is hard won – but it is so easily lost.

And in my view, the BBC is now beyond redemption. They’ve been called out by other media for blatant bias of not only President Trump but also their Gaza coverage.

According to a Telegraph exclusive story

BBC doctored Trump speech, internal report reveals.

The BBC doctored a Donald Trump speech by making him appear to encourage the Capitol Hill riot, according to an internal whistleblowing memo seen by The Telegraph…

A Panorama programme, broadcast a week before the US election, “completely misled” viewers by showing the president telling supporters he was going to walk to the Capitol with them to “fight like hell”, when in fact he said he would walk with them “to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard”. The “mangled” footage was highlighted in a 19-page dossier on BBC bias, which was compiled by a recent member of the corporation’s standards committee and is now circulating in government departments. The dossier said the programme made the US president “‘say’ things [he] never actually said” by splicing together footage from the start of his speech with something he said nearly an hour later. It claimed senior executives and the BBC’s chairman had ignored and dismissed a string of serious complaints raised by the corporation’s own standards watchdog.

Let’s have a watch

Here’s another presentation of it

That is appalling isn’t it. But it’s not the only distortion of Trump.

In fact, they argue it happened at least nine other times!

Aside from a Panorama documentary which “doctored” Donald Trump’s 2021 speech on the day of the Capitol Hill riots, the author of a letter sent to BBC Board members highlights nine other alleged examples.

They include amplifying a “rogue” poll that favoured Kamala Harris, giving “excessive” coverage to Mr Trump’s comments about people eating pets, and dwelling too much on Harris campaign issues while failing to grasp issues that appealed to Trump supporters.

In the letter, Michael Prescott, who until June sat on the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines and Standards Committee, said that “one of the most misrepresented comments of the presidential campaign” was made by Mr Trump about his Republican critic Liz Cheney, who campaigned for Kamala Harris despite being a former chairman of the House Republican Conference.

I’ll come back to that Liz Cheney one in a second because it wasn’t just the BBC who were ‘fake newsing’ that one. It was NZ media as well

The BBC “ignored its own guidelines about not giving undue weight to a single poll” and gave excessive coverage to a rogue poll conducted in Iowa days before the election that suggested Ms Harris was on course for victory in the state. The poll “dominated coverage” in the days before polling day “while other polls that contradicted its findings were underplayed”.

Our NZ media also. They got very excited. The proclamations were loud. Harris beating Trump. Harris ahead.

Nek minnit

56% to Trump. 42% to Harris. Not even close, team.

Nobody thought to check whether this was a complete outlier to every other poll saying the opposite.

The media were just too excited – because they loved the narrative.

The BBC focused too heavily on campaign issues promoted by Ms Harris, such as abortion and women’s rights, “at the expense of giving greater weight” to the economy, immigration and employment, which proved to be a significant factor in how people voted.

Coverage of Mr Trump’s May 2024 convictions for falsifying records “often failed to highlight that many US prosecutors are political appointees” which meant viewers did not have a good understanding of the so-called lawfare at play during the election campaign.

But here’s the clanger:

The internal review of BBC coverage “couldn’t find a single programme that looked more critically at Harris and her record than Trump”.

That is a shocker – but does that surprise you?

No – me neither.

But the leaked report said it wasn’t just Trump that was the victim of this manipulated narrative

According to GBNews in the UK

The BBC’s Arabic news channel “minimised Israeli suffering” in the war against Gaza in order to “paint Israel as the aggressor”, according to a leaked internal report.

Claims and allegations against Israel were said to have been “raced to air” without appropriate checks, while BBC Arabic gave more time to statements from Hamas.

The memo also says the channel had “a desire always to believe the worst about Israel”, while giving “unjustifiable weight” to Hamas’ claims about the death toll in Gaza.

Speaking with the Telegraph, the former director of BBC Television, Danny Cohen, said the BBC was “not safe” in the hands of its current managers, who should “hang their heads in shame and resign”.

… According to The Telegraph, the memo includes an example of one man who said Jews should be burned “as Hitler did” – he appeared as a guest on BBC Arabic 244 times in 18 months.

Another individual described Israelis as less than human. They appeared 522 times in the same period.

The broadcaster also came into question earlier in the year after a BBC Two documentary titled “Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone” was revealed to have been narrated by the son of a Hamas official.

Ofcom described the programme’s failure to disclose information on the narrator’s father as “materially misleading”.

“It meant that the audience did not have critical information which may have been highly relevant to their assessment of the narrator and the information he provided

You’ll note that the report image I’m showing is actually an earlier one from The Australian.

I bet you didn’t see or hear about that in the NZ media. Happy to be corrected on that, but I can’t imagine our media wanting to share that story eh.

You’re being both lied to and misled.

But before we point the finger at the BBC, what about our news media?

Let’s go back to that Liz Cheney one. The BBC were called out for their coverage. How did our media do?

Badly!

The New Zealand headlines all screamed about Trump’s comments that Liz Cheney should be fired upon with guns. Shocking comments.

Here’s Stuff – “Donald Trump suggests war hawk Liz Cheney should have guns trained on her face”

Taxpayer funded Radio NZ – Trump suggest Liz Cheney should face FIRING SQUAD for her foreign policy stance

Here’s the actual commentary

Now let’s watch ThreeNews’ coverage.

Watch when they cut the coverage.

Now watch 1News’ coverage with Jack Tame.

Again, watch when they cut the coverage.

On TVNZ’s Q&A (funded by the taxpayer, by the way) there was a feature on the US election.

Here was the intro to a feature interview entitled “US faces ‘chaos’ if Trump wins 2nd term

Here’s the intro

What they didn’t tell you – apart from a minor comment well into the interview that he has always opposed Trump

But we knew that

He’s described as a “celebrated observer” BUT he’s

Founding member of Never Trump lobby group
Author of “Trumpocracy: The Corruption of the American Republic”
Voted for Hillary in 2016
His magazine endorsed Biden in 2020

That’s kinda relevant information isn’t it.

Some Elon Musk Derangement Syndrome from 1News

Let’s watch 1news our state broadcaster at the celebration of Trump’s election.

As you watch this clip, note that Musk does a number of quirky things that many normal people don’t do.

Let’s watch 1News coverage – and note when they stop the coverage, and the reporter comes back in.

Yep – note that they show half of it – but not the emphasis on the heart, and not the statement.

Here’s another appalling example

Newshub’s coverage of Posie Parker.

Andrew Doyle from GB news in the UK called out Newshub for their blatant misrepresentation:

Have a watch – especially of the “hand signal linked to white supremacists”

One more example

1News reporter Jack Tame grossly misrepresented former President Donald Trump’s comments about protecting women from illegal immigrants.

VIDEO – trump protecting women – actual statement

Trump clearly says he would protect women from illegal immigrants who are killing innocent people (including many women) whether “the women like it or not.” (likely referring to Kamala and others who allow open borders).

Now watch 1News coverage.

The speech coverage is stopped – mid-sentence! And Jack says Trump was referring to – abortion.

Stuff’s Andrea Vance – who seems to like the c-word when abusing female politicians while also calling out mysognistic abuse at female politicians by anyone but herself – also managed to manipulate comments on illegal immigration into abortion.

Trump’s comments were not about reproductive rights. End of. But that was the narrative being pushed by the mainstream media. And that’s cue for outrage from their favourite candidate – Kamala Harris.

As soon as Trump says “women”, the narrative is abortion. Ironically, those same people can’t define what a woman is.

The Brits should have no doubt that the BBC and the news service they are receiving cannot be trusted at the moment.

But the same applies to us also. Sadly.
