New global research has found excess screen time and a lack of physical activity is harming the mental health of adolescents.
The study – published in The Lancet – of more than 577,000 children aged 11-15 from 42 high-income countries found that detrimental mental health impacts start after 2 hours of screen use for girls and after 4 hours for boys. Apparently boys and girls are different – who would have thought? And unsurprisingly the study also found physical activity had a positive impact on mental health.
“Back to basics” with more exercise and less screen-time is backed by science. More research confirms what many parents inherently know … too much screen-time is detrimental to their children’s’ mental health, and exercise is hugely beneficial.
