Bilton Truth: The Good News of Wes Huff

There seems to have been a recent explosion of interest in the evidence for the Christian faith – especially with the younger generations. And Canadian Wes Huff has been on the front lines of sharing this evidence. I believe there is much to celebrate about this and the hunger for Truth around the world, as well as some things we can learn from Wes about how he shares the Truth lovingly and without compromise.

The Good News of Wes Huff

Hello and welcome. Today we’re gonna be talking about this man here, Wesley Huff. Now Wes Huff is a biblical historian and a Christian apologist, and he has been touring the world recently, speaking on the biggest platforms on the planet. We’re talking the Joe Rogan podcast. The Sean Ryan podcast, the Flagrant podcast, the PBD podcast.

On those four podcasts alone, they have accumulated 15 million views, and those aren’t including clips. Those aren’t including those podcasts being shared on other platforms. That’s just YouTube. So there are millions of people around the world wanting to know, Hey, are there reasons why people believe this Christianity stuff?

Is there evidence for the resurrection of Jesus? And what exactly is the gospel? Well, Wes has been sharing that very clearly across the world and there are many things we can celebrate about that and I think there are some things we can learn from Wes. So we’re gonna take a look at all that today.

We’re gonna play a few clips from the best moments, I believe, of the podcast he’s been on. So let’s dig into it.[00:01:00]

Now, Wes Huff is only 35 years old, but he’s been doing this for a while. He’s been putting out very high quality, well researched content for quite some time to help the body of Christ. In their apologetics. So why all of a sudden the explosion? Like I say, he’s been doing this quality research for ages, and now it seems to be reaching the world on a whole nother level.

I believe there’s a number of reasons for this, but for Wes Huff, his conversation with this man here, Billy Carson, went massively viral as Billy was making all sorts of wild claims about the scriptures. He’s really a pseudo-intellectual and spiritual conspiracy theorist. And Wes respectfully obliterated and disproved the claims that Billy was making.

This went massively viral and caused people like Joe Rogan to notice and invite Wes onto his show. Now, I believe that there’s more going on here than just the fact that Billy [00:02:00] Carson and his conversation with Wes huff caused Wes to go massively viral because he obliterated him in a debate. I believe that these secular podcasts are inviting Wes on because they know that one, they wanna have these types of conversations, but the audience wants to hear them, and that is seen to be the case with the numbers.

Millions of people, millions of young people, gen Zs, and millennials tuning in to these podcasts to hear about worldview to hear about what our societies are built on. To hear about the truth and the evidence of Christianity. and why? Why are so many young people wanting to have these conversations? Why are so many people wanting to hear an alternative view?

I believe it’s because we are now living in the western world and the natural outcome, the natural fruit of this new atheist movement, this movement that really has the logical conclusion, that your life has no meaning, that your life has no purpose, and that you as a human being have no inherent value. So no wonder we are more anxious than ever.

No wonder our generation is struggling with their mental health. So where perhaps 50 [00:03:00] years ago it was seen as rebellious to push away from the church. Now many young people are waking up and realizing, hang on, this world is a mess. This culture is a mess. And a big part of that, I think, is where postmodernism has pushed forward this idea of subjective truth.

Where it’s true for you, but it’s not true for me. You can be a boy, you can be a girl. They’ve pushed the logic so far off a cliff that even the secular world has kind of had enough of it, and I think that is also another reason why there’s been this awakening. So now all of a sudden it is. Perhaps you could say counterculture to push back toward the church, to go back to something that looks solid, somthing that looks like it stood the test of time. And it also means your life has value. It brings your life meaning, it gives you direction. And for young people, they sorely need that direction. They very much need hope. We have a mental health crisis here in New Zealand according to the Mental Health Foundation. 15 to 24 year olds are experiencing anxiety and depression at unprecedented rates. Over 50% of them, and this has nearly doubled [00:04:00] in recent years. So our government are very aware of our mental health crisis that we’re dealing with, and they’re scrambling to do something about it and the solutions that they can provide.

It’s like building your house on sand and expecting it to stay solid. The lies that are getting put forward in our culture are not the solution. The young people are waking up to realize, perhaps the church. Perhaps Christianity, perhaps the same values that have built the Western world, perhaps they have something to offer me.

And actually, recently West was on Piers Morgan Uncensored and Piers Morgan was asking west this question about the state of the church in the western world, and here’s what West had to say. I actually think we’re seeing somewhat of a resurgence in that Bible sales have skyrocketed in the last couple of years.

I think we’re seeing individuals, uh, kind of come into the limelight and are bringing a, a Christian message in a much more overt way where we didn’t see before. Um, people who are are popular, um, if they’re not Christian, are bringing kind of a. [00:05:00] Spotlight on Christianity. People like Jordan Peterson or Joe Rogan, who I think are, are much, much more sympathetic to Christianity.

I’m gonna read for you now a few studies, and this is why I believe that millions of people tuning into these podcasts to hear the evidence for the Christian faith. It’s just the tip of the iceberg. And so here’s some studies. 56% increase in church attendance in the UK just in the last five years, more surprisingly though.

It’s been 400% increase amongst young women, but a 500% increase among young men. In 2018, just 4% of 18 to 24 year olds said that they attended church every month. Today that’s risen to 16%. A four to 21% increase in young men with a three to 12% among young women. So the church is experiencing a time of rapid growth and it is driven by young adults and especially young men.

And I think this news of young men reconnecting with the church is very [00:06:00] encouraging for society, for communities, for their families, either their current families or their future families. ’cause their wife. Is gonna benefit their kids are gonna benefit, their workplace is gonna benefit, their communities are going to thrive.

When young men, when men of all ages, for that matter, are led by God well and lead their families well. Healthy families are made. Healthy communities are made, and a healthy nation is restored. That is one family at a time led by one healthy man at a time. And so this is a good sign for communities. And there was another study done in 2021.

It researched 24,870 teenagers across 26 countries, and it referred to them as the open generation because of their openness to Jesus in comparison to the generation that came before them, the millennials and this openness may be leading to increased commitment to Jesus in Western contexts. That’s what the study said.

Now, what about here in New Zealand? Well, youth and Baptist churches increased by 24% between [00:07:00] 2022 and 2024. Easter camps grew 42% between 23 and 25. There were over 710 baptisms reported in Baptist churches in 2024, and 58% of them were under the age of 25. So that’s the good news. There is a move of God among young people.

Now, of course, every move of God is because of the power of his spirit and the unstoppable nature of his word. But there are some things we can do to not get in the way of his word, like clearly communicating it, not apologizing for what it says. Now Wes has been clearly communicating it. And recently he was on the diary of a CEO podcast, which also received millions of views.

It was a very intense moment when he was asked by the host of the podcast, am I going to hell? Let’s take a look at that clip. Now, if I don’t believe in Jesus, yeah, I don’t believe in the Bible. Mm-hmm. But I live a. Good life. I’m nice to people, charitable try be kind wherever I can be. Yeah. And [00:08:00] I don’t believe in God.

Am I going to hell or heaven as it relates to the scriptures. Well, I don’t think if you are living your life rejecting God, God is not gonna force you into his presence. So you, I’m not gonna go into, I’m not gonna go to heaven, then where am I gonna go? Well you would, you would go hell, so. So if I don’t believe in the Bible, Jesus and God, then I’m going to go to hell.

So here, I think there’s a couple things we can just notice. One is. The world does not understand the gospel. So many times we can think they’ve heard it a hundred times. They know what it’s all about. They simply don’t. Unfortunately, many Christians cannot articulate the gospel very well, and the world certainly does not understand it.

Our human nature is such that we fall back onto our own good works. We fall back onto how much of a good person we’ve been, and this is what Steven has done as well. He’s thinking, well, what if I’ve done lots of kind things? What if I do my best to be kind to others? Does that mean that I’ve earned a spot in heaven?

And Wes very [00:09:00] calmly, very lovingly says, no, you would be going to hell. And now he continues on to better explain the gospel and better explain the fact that the only way to heaven is through Christ. Yes, insofar as if, heaven is a place for those who have submitted their lives to Jesus, who are living the identity of what they’re created to be and said, your will be done. God. Yeah. Hell is a place where God says, you rejected me. Your will be done. I’m going to, I’m going to give you what you want in that. I’m gonna remove my grace and mercy from you, and you are going to experience truly what you desire. Separated from me and my goodness and my grace. Stephen Bartlett, I desire you to have a personal relationship with your creator because I don’t want you to experience whatever hell [00:10:00] is.

I, I, I desire for you to be in perfect relationship with your God, not necessarily because I want you to get a get outta hell free card, but because I actually think that. In living how God created you to be and accepting, living out the image that you bear. You are going to find the meaning and purpose that you ultimately have expressed that you have this desire for.

And there were many other fantastic moments in that podcast, but Wes he did not compromise the truth, he shared it lovingly, but he shared it clearly. He said, you deserve the wrath of God. I deserve the wrath of God, but Christ absorbed it on the cross. And if you put your faith, if you put your trust in him, you can be forgiven.

You can have a hope for the future. You can have eternity with Christ. That is the good news. Now, if you’re a pastor, if you’re a leader in the church, especially in the older generation. There is a whole group of young people, millions of them all around [00:11:00] the world wanting to know the truth. And I’d encourage you, as it says in one Peter, be ready to give a reason for the hope that is within you.

Have a defense ready when these questions come and they will come because this younger generation, they want to know. They want to know the evidence. And when they come with these questions, do not water down the answers. Give them the truth. Give them the clarity of the word of God. Give them the gospel without compromise.

’cause if they reject it. They reject it, but if they accept it, they’ll find hope. They’ll find freedom. They’ll find a solid foundation that they’re desperate for. There is a mental health crisis. There is an identity crisis, and the gospel, the word of God will give them freedom, forgiveness, and a solid foundation to build their life on.

That is the good news. Do not compromise it. Be ready and willing to share [00:12:00] it.
