FAMILY MATTERS: Embracing the ‘untouchables’

Imagine being seen as so low, that as a human being you are treated worse than animals. This is the case of the ‘untouchables’ or Dalits in some parts of India. Simon O’Connor from Family First sits down with Kate from the Dignity Freedom Network (DFN) to talk about their work in villages across India to support these people. From health and education, to economic empowerment and ending slavery-like conditions – DFN is transforming lives and communities. They also discuss the horrific treatment of ‘Jogani girls’ – untouchables who are put into sexual slavery. This is a heartbreaking discussion and yet one also filled with hope and transformation. [PLEASE NOTE: Due to the sensitivity of DFN’s work, and potential security risks for them, we are not showing Kate or any of the DFN teams faces.]
