Solid Ground – 17 March 2026

In this episode of Solid Ground, Simon questions how media are treating the social media post by Chris Hipkins’ ex-wife noting that, so far, they are reporting with ‘kids gloves’ in comparison to how they’ve pursued other issues and accusations of politicians. Simon cautions though about getting too invested in politicians’ personal lives.

He criticises an absurd video from the United Nations for International Women’s Day, where the idea of woman is reduced to whatever you want it to be, rendering the idea of ‘woman’ meaningless. Going through it with viewers, he points out the endless stupidity and misrepresentations being promoted.

Simon also notes the death of philosopher Jürgen Habermas – a key figure in the development of critical theory within the Frankfurt School of thoughts, flags a move by the government to liberalise alcohol laws, discusses Iranian women footballers seeking asylum in Australia and condemns the Archbishop of Canterbury for skipping a vote on extending abortion up to birth.
