Family Matters: Bird Flip and speaking up for the unborn

On this episode of Family Matters – a first for the podcast! Simon sits down with two guests, Australian pro-life advocates Elspeth McKellar and Lola Popoola from Bird Flip ( @birdfliporg ). What is Bird Flip? Well, it’s a new, youthful, and dynamic social media and events brand that literally and figuratively wants to flip the bird at the abortion industry.

It’s a deliberately cheeky yet also serious name as those at Bird Flip seek to confront the pro-abortion messaging and expose the many lies within society, as well as bringing urgency to protecting unborn children. Elspeth and Lola share their stories of how they got involved, balancing careers and family, and what it is like doing street interviews with people. They share the impact of their social media as well as how people react to them, as young women, talking so passionately about the unborn. They also share the exhaustion and resistance that comes from hearing people dehumanise the unborn, but Lola and Elspeth also share the deeply encouraging moments they have doing this important human rights advocacy.

Simon then talks with them about babies born alive after abortions in Australia and New Zealand, including Queensland’s ‘Baby Samuel’. Elspeth and Lola share how the media largely ignored the baby, and instead obsessed with who the potential whistleblower may have been. They also talk about the large public rallies that occurred in response. Finally, they share highlights from their advocacy from people keeping their babies, changing their views to value life, and also seeing growing momentum in South Australia to introduce a post 25 week ban.
