Family Matters – Katy Faust and putting kids first in marriage and the rise of divorce porn

In this episode of Family Matters, Simon welcomes back Katy Faust to talk of her work with Them Before Us and her new initiative, the Greater Than coalition.

As regular viewers will know, Katy was a very special guest at Forum on the Family in 2024 and someone who strongly argues that children have natural rights not only to life but to be known and loved by their mother and father, and that this standard should guide debates on marriage, divorce, adoption, birth certificates, reproductive technologies, and more.

Katy fiercely argues that modern policy is driven by adult self-interest, with children unable to defend themselves. She criticises the likes of surrogacy and IVF as unvetted commercialization that can involve shopping donor catalogues, mass-producing embryos, and screening for a increasing wide ranges of traits including sex and IQ – framing it as a return of eugenics and noting examples such as billionaires producing many surrogate-born children and pensioners raising children as caregivers.

She then goes on to discuss the new Greater Than coalition—over 100 U.S. groups and influencers including Allie Beth Stuckey, Michael Knowles, and Lila Rose. It is focused on overturning gay marriage, arguing that redefining marriage has made mothers and fathers optional, shifted parenthood law from biology, and helped enable broader changes like polyamory normalisation and intensified state policing of speech and parental rights.

To wrap up, Simon and Katy talk about the rise of “divorce porn” on social media. This involves influencers seeking to drive dissatisfaction and monetised coaching by encouraging women to leave non-abusive marriages.
